ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Did the GCA do enough for you in 2004?
What more would you like us to do to help enhance this community in 2005?
Be sure to come to our AGM this year to stay informed about the issues
which may affect you, and voice your hopes and concerns for the community
for the year ahead.
Is the character of Greenwich under threat?
What’s happening with the new LEP? Is our community in danger of
over-development?
How can we best enhance communications within this community with our
Councillors and Web page www.greenwich.org.au ?
Come along and elect the executive committee for 2005. Why not stand
for office yourself, or nominate a willing friend at the AGM?
COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION COMMITTEES
At the AGM members will be asked to stand for the GCA Planning and Building
Committee (6) which reviews Development Applications and as representatives
for the following committees and groups: Shell Community Consultation
(3); Lane Cove Main Street (1); Lane Cove Tunnel Action Group (1); East
Ward Traffic Committee (1) and Lane Cove Alliance (1).
WOOLWORTHS SAGA , or
HERE WE GO AGAIN
On 20/12/04 the Woolworths/Car Park/Library development was approved
and the matter appeared to be finalised, since number of amendments were
made to the conditions of approval in Woolworths favour. However, Woolworths
have reignited the debate through two Section 96 applications. One of
the submissions is to avoid paying the Section 94 fees which others have
to pay in Development Applications!
Additionally, questions regarding the actual numbers of new parking spaces
continue to go unanswered. Considering the high priority given to this
issue by residents, this remains a contentious matter.
GREENWICH SPORT REGISTRATION
The registrations for the soccer and netball teams will be at the Uniting
Church, 9 Carlotta St., Greenwich on
Thursday, 10th Feb, from 6.30 pm to 8 pm
Saturday, 12th Feb from 8.30 am to 10.00

SANTA AT GREENWICH
There is nothing like the gleaming, happy faces of Greenwich children
when Santa comes into the wharf at 8.00 am on Christmas Day – a
wonderful start to a very special day. Donations for refreshments during
Santa's visit went to the Sydney City Mission. Thank you for your support
and to
all Santa's helpers.
CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT
On 13th December 2004, the annual "Carols by Candlelight" was
held in the Community Hall instead of the usual site at Leemon Reserve
due to uncooperative weather. The hall was full of the sound of Christmas
joy, led by the Greenwich Carollers with a fine "back-up band" of
musicians. The children were in particularly fine voice. Our thanks go
the host of people involved in making the evening such a success: $700
was raised for local youth related programs in partnership with the Synergy
Youth Centre in Lane Cove.
THE ISABELLE HEIM FUND
Many Greenwich residents enjoyed bubbles, croissants, and coffee at a
New Year’s Day Champagne Brunch, at La Renaissance in the Rocks,
to help this young disabled girl in our community. The event raised more
than $5,000, and it is now a tickets-only annual event . Winner of the
Gourmet Hamper was George Clarke and Judy Flayter won the Grape Vine
accommodation package in the Hunter Valley. Our thanks go to all who
attended, sent donations and to those who helped on the day.
LANE COVE CITIZENSHIP AWARDS
Nominations close 18 Feb. Categories are Young Achiever, Music/Art/Culture,
Sport, Workplace Awards, Community Service, Leadership, Outstanding
Business, and (new this year) Access and Disability Award. There is
a link on www.greenwich.org.au for the Nomination Forms.
GREENWICH/ST LEONARDS PARKING STUDY – COULD AFFECT YOU!
Comments on the Greenwich/St Leonards Parking Study close 18th Feb. This
particularly affects residents from the Pacific Highway down to Wilona
Ave but will have flow-on effects for us all. Follow the link on the
Greenwich website or view at Council or in the Libraries.
